If you are over 50 and looking for work, you may feel that you could use some special help in your job search. The Mature Workers Resource Center offers a friendly environment from which to organize your job search and access many resources. Staff can help you work on your resume and connect you with training and educational programs.
Men and women age 55 and over may be eligible for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) services, such as training and supportive services. Individual counseling, assessment, resume construction, interviewing and help with job search and job placement are some of the additional services provided.
Computer training is available for those meeting eligibility requirements
through a partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College. The classes are offered at the Mature Workers Resource Center at Washington Park Senior Center.
If you are age 55 and over and meet low-income guidelines, you may also be eligible for subsidized on-the-job training in addition to the other services outlined above.
Displaced Homemakers are another eligible population served by the Dislocated Worker Program at the Mature Worker Resource Center. Displaced homemakers are usually women who have worked in the home in an unpaid capacity and then lost their source of income because of divorce, death, separation or permanent disability of the family member. Single women with dependent children who are receiving or have lost W-2 benefits are also eligible. Within an atmosphere of encouragement and support, women in transition are helped to develop the readiness skills necessary to enter or return to the workforce. Our approach includes assessment, goal setting, career counseling and short-term occupational training to displaced homemakers of all ages.
