This program is designed to be a “win-win” work experience for both employer and job seeker. Employers who are looking for workers with specialized skills, can use on-the-job training program to hire good candidates and provide specific skills training needed to succeed in their workplace. These jobs can be entry-level or highly technical positions.
Employers can select potential employees from a pool of pre-screened candidates whose skills and interests have been evaluated and then matched to job requirements or refer individuals to the MAWIB they feel are suitable. As part of the hiring process, an agreement along with a training plan is developed. For a designated training period, training is provided at the employer’s place of business. Up to 50 percent of the employee’s wages are reimbursed to the employer. Trainees must work a minimum of 32 hours a week. The maximum training period is 16 weeks. The job must be permanent, pay at least $8.00 per hour and trainees must be offered access to benefits, including health care insurance, if provided, upon completion of the training.
