Kiona's Story
Kiona had earned her high school diploma when she came to the Milwaukee Career Center (MCC) but she lacked direction. Kiona was also struggling with a significant hearing loss, which did not have to hold her back.
Kiona’s first step was to complete a career and educational assessment to learn what careers match her interests and skills. Because of her math and reading skills and an interest in helping others, Kiona chose to pursue a career in Human Services.
Her course set, MWIB helped Kiona get the hearing aids she needed and enrolled her in some training courses and lined her up for internships to get on-the-job experience.
At the MCC Kiona learned to market herself with a polished resume, professional attire and solid interviewing skills. Kiona got the job as an administrative secretary at State Fair Park and was finishing an associate degree at MATC. “I hope to get a Bachelor’s degree next!" said Kiona.
